Education with the WAVE Foundation Newport Aquarium
Our goal is to inspire wonder, generate awareness and foster respect and appreciation for the world’s rivers, oceans and their inhabitants through exciting educational programs.

By creating unique educational opportunities and resources for the community, we expose students to marine life that they may not otherwise encounter.

The Finstitute
The WAVE Foundation brings field trips to a new level with the Finstitute, a selection of on-site classroom experiences designed to improve the quality of educational visits to the Newport Aquarium. 45 minute interactive lessons teach students about aquatic life, chemistry, physics and the sciences in a fun, hands-on way. Finstitute also offers an exciting summer camp program.

Kentucky Aquatic Wild Cards
The WAVE Foundation of the Newport Aquarium and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources teamed up to make learning about life in and around the water FUN! Together we have developed two sets of playing cards with 104 different organisms, all representing Kentucky’s aquatic biodiversity.
Job Shadowing
On the first Tuesday of every month during the school year, we schedule area students to spend an evening job-shadowing one of our marine biologists. All students must pre-register to participate in this unique educational experience. Typically, we look to include high school age students, but welcome younger mature students as well. The program runs from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. To register, call 859.815.1451.
