WAVE Foundation Embarks Upon “Nauti Nite” Fundraiser
at the Newport Aquarium

September 8, 2006
Newport, KY – The WAVE Foundation will be hosting Nauti Nite, a unique fundraising event, on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Newport Aquarium at 7:30 p.m.

With a nautical cruise ship theme, Nauti Nite takes guests aboard the SS Newport Aquarium to “visit” exotic ports of call such as the Orient, Hawaii, France, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean—all within dozens of Aquarium exhibits. The WAVE Foundation further enhances the nautical theme with exotic cuisine and drinks, belly dancers, live music, a silent auction, live animal encounters and more. The silent auction will feature exotic trips, a 125-gallon salt water aquarium, Bengals tickets and more.

Join Honorary Captains Dudley Taft and Tricia Macke at the helm of one of the most unique events of the year. All proceeds from Nauti Nite support the WAVE Foundation’s educational programs and conservation initiatives. Nauti Nite tickets are $75.00, VIP tickets begin at $150.00

For sponsorship information or to purchase Nauti Nite tickets, contact Katharene Snavely WAVE@newportaquarium.com or call 859.815.1404.

The WAVE Foundation, designated as a 501(c) 3 organization, is the independent, educational branch of the Newport Aquarium, which was created to further efforts to educate the community about marine life and the conservation of natural resources and habitats. The WAVE acronym stands for Welfare of Aquatic Animals and Natural Resources, Advocate for Conservation, Volunteer Pursuits and Educational Opportunities.

Newport Aquarium showcases thousands of animals from around the world in a million gallons of water, including the enormously popular “Sweet Pea,” one of the only shark rays in the world. Named the No. 1 aquarium in the Midwest in the Zagat Survey’s U.S. Family Travel Guide in 2004, this state-of-the-art facility is open to the public 365 days a year. Like its sister aquarium, Adventure Aquarium, on the Camden Waterfront, Camden, NJ, Newport Aquarium is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation. Located only two minutes from downtown Cincinnati at Newport on the Levee. For more information, visit newportaquarium.com or call 859.261.7444.

Aquarium’s WAVE Foundation receives $25K for underprivileged students
Newport, KY – It’s no fish tale: The first donation to the “Friends of Finstitute” was a big one.

The $25,000 donation from the Brodie Price Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation to the WAVE Foundation, the Aquarium’s nonprofit arm, will give over 3,500 underprivileged students in the Greater Cincinnati area the opportunity to take part in the Finstitute program and tour the Aquarium.

WAVE’s Finstitute is a 45-minute classroom experience and structured lesson plan that meets the requirements for national, Ohio and Kentucky science education standards. WAVE developed “Friends of Finstitute” to underwrite the program to reach students who could not afford the normal cost, $7-$8 per student, to tour the Aquarium and take part in the Finstitute.

This $25,000 donation, the first of its kind, comes from Price Charities, part of the Price Legacy real estate investment trust based in San Diego that owns Newport on the Levee. Price Charities works with nonprofit organizations in California communities and across the country to support inner-city development and educational initiatives for disadvantaged students.

“We hope this donation strengthens the WAVE Foundation and enhances the services they offer. We want underprivileged kids who wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to learn about fish and wildlife to experience the wonderful education the WAVE Foundation can provide,” said Jack McGrory, CEO of Newport on the Levee and Executive Vice President and Director of Price Charities.

“This generous support of WAVE’s program and community will make a huge impact on our mission to educate area youth. Our hope is that Cincinnati-based companies will also recognize this opportunity to contribute so we can reach even more students,” said WAVE’s Donor and Corporate Development Director Katharene Snavely.

Companies or individuals that would like more details on how to participate with “Friends of Finstitute” can email WAVE@newportaquarium.com or call Katharene Snavely at 859.815.1404.

Price Charities consists of two philanthropic entities inspired by San Diego's Price Family: Price Family Charitable Fund and San Diego Revitalization Corporation ("SDRC"), both California nonprofit public benefit corporations which are tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).  Price Family Charitable Fund is advisor to the Weingart-Price Fund, an advised fund of The San Diego Foundation, and the Brodie-Price Philanthropic Fund, an advised fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego.

The Finstitute Classroom Experience is a structured lesson plan as well as a 45-minute classroom experience taught by a Newport Aquarium instructor in the Newport on the Levee Community Rooms. Students can learn about aquatic life, chemistry, physics and the sciences in a fun, hands-on way. Prices for student tickets (for Aquarium tour and classroom experience) are $7 for pre-K – 8, and $8 for 9 - 12, $13 for adults (plus one free adult/teacher chaperone for every 10 students). Finstitute programs are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve registration basis. To book a field trip or for more information, please call 859.815.1462.
